This is the fourth episode of Climate Lab, a six-part series produced by the University of California in partnership with Vox. Hosted by Emmy-nominated conservation scientist Dr. M. Sanjayan, the videos explore the surprising elements of our lives that contribute to climate change and the groundbreaking work being done to fight back.

Featuring conversations with experts, scientists, thought leaders and activists, the series takes what can seem like an overwhelming problem and breaks it down into manageable parts: from clean energy to food waste, religion to smartphones. Sanjayan is an alum of UC Santa Cruz and a Visiting Researcher at UCLA.

Foodie Gadgets: DIY Lego Vending Machine

Mengingat-ingat masa kecil dahulu, ada beberapa jenis mainan yang sebetulnya selalu jadi idola. Salah satunya adalah mesin kasir dengan uang plastik berbentuk kotak yang dipakai untuk berbelanja layaknya berada di supermarket.

Nah jika saja barang-barang di supermarket tersebut bukan sekadar kotak bergambar sayur ataupun daging, tentunya pengalaman berbelanja seolah saya alami sendiri tanpa harus mengikuti sang ibu pergi ke pasar. Di sinilah sepertinya Astonishing Studios hendak memberikan pengalaman seru seperti itu.

Melalui channel Youtube-nya, Astonishing Studios berbagi cara merakit Lego untuk menjadi sebuah vending machine – dimana kita bisa sungguh-sungguh membeli makanan ataupun minuman dengan memasukkan uang ke dalamnya. Mulai dari burger McD, ayam goreng KFC, ataupun Starbucks; Astonishing Studios memperlihatkan bahwa semuanya mungkin.

Tentu saja mungkin bagi kebanyakan orang dewasa ini bisa jadi dianggap sebagai buang-buang waktu saja dan akan lebih cepat melakukannya bila membeli sendiri di counter BK atau McD terdekat. Tapi ada rasa nostalgia ketika kita dulu senang bermain di kala kecil, ataupun sekadar untuk memanjakan anak-anak kita maupun ponakan yang sedang bermain ke rumah.
