Renowned for its excellence and innovation in food and beverage, Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta, together with the Embassy of Mexico, presents a special Mexican Food Festival with Mexican guest chef, Ángel Vázquez Cástelanfrom 12 to 22 May 2014 at Cinnamon restaurant.

Chef Vázquez is highly-known as the owner of two famous local restaurants, Intro and Kafeina. Originally from Puebla in Mexico, Chef Vázquez celebrates the tradition of Mexican cuisine as well as other world-famous cuisines, including Brazil, Morocco and Scandinavian. Earning his master’s degree in food and beverage management, he has been trusted to work with some prestigious restaurants in the world such as Main Course in New York, Cal Ble and El Cingle by Montse Estruch in Barcelona, and Ze Kitchen Galerie of Chef William Ledeuil and Potel et Chabot at Roland-Garros in Paris. His flair in creating authentic Mexican food has brought him to travel around the world and had the honour to prepare Mexican cuisine for some ambassadors of Mexico in Asia and Europe.

MO Chefs

Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta’s acclaimed chefs welcome guests to their kitchen to discover the art of cooking in various styles and techniques. The class will be led by Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta’s head chefs specializing in French, Cantonese and Szechuan cuisines, and Pastry. Each chef will skilfully demonstrate and guide the methods and steps to prepare dishes of the highest quality and flavor, from ingredients preparation to cooking.

French Specialties with Executive Chef Thierry Le Queau

With more than 20 years of culinary experience and an illustrious record in Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta, Chef Thierry is a native of Brittany who has earned prestigious posts in France, the Caribbean, the United States and the Middle East. Known for his work ethic and passion for food, Thierry aims to deliver good, honest food using various cooking techniques and the best produce available in order to create a memorable dining experience.

Cantonese and Szechuan Specialties with Executive Chinese Chef Jeff Lee

Chef Lee is the man behind the success of Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta’s famous Chinese restaurant, Xin Hwa. Chef Lee was born in Malaysia, before he embarked on his career working in top Chinese restaurants across China and Singapore. Participants can expect to learn how to create traditional Chinese recipe with a modern twist.

Pastry with Chef Wita Girawati

Chef Wita’s exciting 10-year career has taken her from the Maldives to Jakarta, with experiences in some five star hotels. Chef Wita’s recent culinary training in LeNôtre in Paris includes working alongside some of the world’s most talented pastry mastermind such as Christophe Rhedon and Gaetan Paris, both of whom had won the Meilleur Ouvrier de France or Best Craftsmen of France. Chef Wita and team concoct an array of delicious treats offered at the famous Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop.

The Cooking demo is priced at IDR588,000++ with a maximum of 15 people; exclusive cooking class is at IDR888,000++ with a maximum six people, and baking class for children aged between 6 and 12 is priced at IDR188,000++ per person. The classes take place on Saturday mornings between 10:00am – 2:30pm with two to three-hour cooking classes.

The package includes breakfast and an interactive culinary demonstration followed by a food tasting and an official certificate of completion.
